Internet
The Internet is a global network of interconnected computers that uses TCP/IP to communicate between networks and devices.
History
In the 1960s, the US government began developing the ARPANET, which was a precursor of the Internet. Access to the ARPANET expanded in 1981 when the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded the Computer Science Network (CSNET). In 1990, Tim-Berners Lee developed the first web browser, the WorldWideWeb, which was improved and released to the public in 1991.
Censorship
Some governments, such as those of Burma, Iran, North Korea, Mainland China, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, restrict access to some content on the Internet within their countries. In Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden, major Internet service providers have voluntarily agreed to restrict access to sites listed by authorities. The contents of the lists are unknown.
